Protecting What Matters Most: Free Flu Vaccinations for Our Community.

Over four dedicated days, the Community Care Clinic organised flu vaccination days for the community — making an essential service accessible to those who need it most.

Normally, flu vaccinations come at a cost. For many people in the community, this can be a barrier. Yet for elderly people and those with chronic conditions, a flu vaccine is not a luxury — it is a vital protection that can prevent serious illness and complications.

By offering these vaccinations locally and free of charge, we were able to reach people who might otherwise go without.

These days were made possible by the incredible dedication of our volunteer nurses Jennifer, Asandiswa and Valerie . Their commitment, care, and willingness to give their time ensured that many members of the community received the protection they deserve.

What stood out most was not just the number of vaccinations given, but the sense of trust

and gratitude. People felt seen, supported, and safe.

This is what community healthcare is about:

Removing barriers, protecting the vulnerable, and showing up when it matters most.

And again — this is only the beginning.

Weekly Wednesday Services

Wednesday Services at the Community Care Clinic in collaboration with Muizenberg Clinic, Lavender Hill Clinic, and Seawinds Clinic.

Every Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., the Community Care Clinic provides free, accessible healthcare for children and women.

For children, we offer routine immunizations according to the national schedule, along with Vitamin A supplementation and deworming to support healthy growth and development.

For women, services include family planning, oral and injectable contraception, contraceptive implants, and Pap smears for early detection and prevention.

These services are delivered in collaboration with Muizenberg Clinic, Lavender Hill Clinic, and Seawinds Clinic, strengthening care within the community.

Support outreach in Overcome Heights

This morning, we received an urgent call from the City of Cape Town requesting support for an outreach in Overcome Heights — an outreach that is organised together with Living Hope.

�� Stepping in when it matters most ��

Due to the Easter period, the scheduled nursing staff were unexpectedly unavailable at the last moment, putting the entire outreach at risk of being cancelled.

And that would have meant something serious.

Because this is a community where access to care is not a given.

Where safety concerns make it difficult for people to travel to clinics.

Where outreach services are not a luxury — but essential.

We are proud that, together with our team, we were able to step in and support the community.

Our nurse and senior care worker provided:

•⁠ ⁠Blood pressure checks

•⁠ ⁠Glucose testing

•⁠ ⁠HIV testing

•⁠ ⁠Child health services

•⁠ ⁠Family planning support

This is exactly why the Community Care Clinic exists — to be flexible, responsive, and present where care is needed most.

Our very first Immunization Day at the Community Care Clinic.

A special milestone for our clinic and the community we serve. On this day, we welcomed children and families for essential immunizations, vitamin A supplementation, and deworming—care that builds the foundation for a healthier future.

What made this day truly meaningful was the collaboration. Together with the teams from Seawinds Clinic, Lavender Hill Clinic, and Muizenberg Clinic, we created a safe, accessible space where prevention and care came together.

Behind every vaccination is a story of protection, trust, and hope. Seeing families walk in and leave reassured, supported, and cared for is exactly why the Community Care Clinic exists.

This is only the beginning. More immunization days will follow as we continue strengthening community health—one patient, one family at a time.

Bringing Essential Care Closer to Women in Our Community

A Strong Start: Supporting Women’s Health in the Community.

On the 26th of March, we organised our very first Community Care Clinic health day at Where Rainbows Meet — an important milestone in bringing accessible care closer to the community.

During this day, we focused on women’s health, offering:

Pap smears
Family planning, including oral contraception, injectables, and Implanon

These services may seem basic in many parts of the world, but in this community, they are not always easily accessible. For many women, barriers such as safety, distance, and limited resources make it difficult to receive timely care.

By providing these services locally, we are helping women take control of their health in a safe, accessible, and respectful environment.

Preventive care, such as Pap smears, plays a crucial role in early detection of cervical cancer, while access to family planning empowers women to make informed decisions about their bodies and their futures.

What made this day even more meaningful was the collaboration with Lavender Hill Clinic, showing the power of working together to strengthen healthcare delivery in the community.

This first health day was more than just a service — it was a step towards equality in healthcare, where every woman has the right to be seen, supported, and cared for.

And this is only the beginning.

World TB Day

TB Day at the Community Care Clinic – A Powerful Day of Impact.

Our recent TB Day was a true reflection of what community-driven healthcare can achieve.

Together with our partners, we provided TB screening, testing, and education to the community—making essential care accessible, approachable, and stigma-free. Many community members took the important step to get tested, ask questions, and engage in their health.

What stood out most was the openness and trust. Conversations were started, awareness was raised, and early detection was made possible—key elements in fighting TB and protecting the wider community.

This day would not have been possible without the strong collaboration with Seawinds Clinic, Muizenberg Clinic, and the incredible support from Where Rainbows Meet and our dedicated team on the ground.

TB remains a serious challenge, but days like this show that together, we can make a real difference.

When Care Comes Together

Muizenberg Clinic, Lavender Hill Clinic, Westlake Clinic, Seawinds Clinic & The Community Care Clinic.

Today, something truly special happened.

Last week, we met Sister Lawrence, manager of Lavender Hill Clinic and Muizenberg Clinic. We had invited her to come and have a look at the Community Care Clinic — and this morning she showed up spontaneously, together with the Head of Nursing from Westlake Clinic.

We gave them a tour, showed that we have already started working from the bungalow (which looks very professional with our screens and medical trolleys), and where the hospitainer will soon be placed. They were clearly impressed.

After the tour, I asked for support with vaccinating children. There are mothers in the community who do not dare to cross the street with their babies because of the violence and stray bullets. The past few days have been extremely unsafe in several communities.

They immediately started thinking along. However, they wanted to involve the Head of Nursing from Seawinds Clinic as well. She was called and arrived within 20 minutes. What followed was remarkable: suddenly we found ourselves in an official meeting with the nursing management of five clinics, all with one shared goal — improving care for the children in our communities.

I got goosebumps from how quickly this all came together. Everyone wanted the same thing: to make sure people receive the care they need. And if people cannot come to the clinic, then we bring the care to them.

Since the Community Care Clinic do not yet offer a vaccination programme, the other clinics will support us. We will have fixed vaccination days at our location: two days per month, where, for example, all children can receive their measles vaccinations on the same day.

In addition, we will jointly organise World Tuberculosis Day this coming Tuesday (24 March) at the Community Care Clinic. Muizenberg Clinic and Seawinds Clinic will bring materials and nursing staff and will show us how to organise such a day. This will form the foundation for future themed days, such as HIV days and World Health Day (7 April).

There is even a full calendar for these initiatives.

This is a major step forward. Our clinic is truly becoming part of a strong collaborative network for those who need care the most. The other clinics also recognise how important this is, especially because many patients are afraid to reach them due to gangs, violence, and stray bullets.

When everyone left, I burst into tears. Tears of happiness. Because it almost feels unreal how quickly this all happened — simply because everyone shares the same goal: providing good care, with their hearts in the right place.
