On International Nurses Day, Maverick Citizen highlights the women behind the Community Care Clinic as “Beacons of Care”.

This International Nurses Day, the work of the nurses and healthcare workers of the Community Care Clinic was featured by Daily Maverick under the banner Maverick Citizen – Beacons of Care. The article, written by award-winning journalist Hazel Friedman, highlights the women carrying healing, dignity and hope through the community of Vrygrond.

The story reflects what healthcare in the community truly means: home visits, chronic care, support for frail patients, and being present for people long before they reach a hospital. It also recognises the growing role of the Community Care Clinic as a place where accessible and respectful healthcare is becoming available within the community itself.

To see the Daily Maverick logo connected to the work happening inside our small clinic in Vrygrond is incredibly meaningful. Daily Maverick is one of South Africa’s most respected independent news platforms, known for investigative journalism and human stories that matter. The fact that they chose to tell the story of our nurses and community is a recognition of the dedication, compassion and resilience of the entire team.
